Dr. Harkins is interested in applications of pastoral theology and counseling to congregational and clinical settings, particularly with regard to family systems theory. Other interests include the dialogue between psychoanalysis and religious studies; pastoral counseling centers in congregational settings; issues of difference/diversity in pastoral theology; men’s studies in religion; and congregational consultation.
