OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY ADS

Apartment Design Project and Market Bag Sales

The Outreach Committee has new Market Bags on sale!

100% of all proceeds from Market Bag sales are donated to support Outreach Activities/area organizations.

Market bags are on sale in the refectory during coffee hour.  Each bag cost $3.

This year, one of the projects funded by Market Bag sales will be to participate in a new contest called "Design for a New Start," sponsored by the Refugee Resettlement and Immigration Services of Atlanta.  They are asking for groups to create a design team to decorate a newly arrived refugee's apartment and help welcome refugees to Atlanta.

We need folks to donate materials and a team of folks to decorate the apartment.  This is an incredible opportunity for us to show hospitality to our global sisters and brothers who will soon be our immediate neighbors!

RRISA will provide bed frames and mattresses (and we have the option of asking RRISA to provide a couch, dining table, and dining chairs).  We have to supply the rest. We can look in yard sales, thrift stores, and in our attics - seek out the help of folks from our congregations....

Our apartments will be judged on four categories: Style & Design, Practicality, Cultural Appropriateness, and Cost Efficiency.  Extra Credit will be given if we can raise enough money to pay for one month's rent ($600) and/or if you provide larger items like the sofa, dining table, and dining chairs.

At the end, RRISA will give every team a picture of the Refugee family inside their new apartment, with the family's approval. And the winner will receive a plaque to be awarded at a public awards ceremony and recognition in RRISA's newsletter.

Please contact Maggie at maggie.leonard@students.ctsnet.edu if you have anything to donate or if you would like to be a part of the decorating team.
