Chapel Schedule

The Admissions Office invites the CTS community for worship and coffee with visiting prospective students beginning at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 8.  Worship will be held in Campbell Hall chapel.

Below is the outline for the Fall Forum Schedule.  Please review and mark your calendars accordingly.  There are a few open dates if your campus organization is interested in hosting Forum.  There will be 9 Forum Sessions available in Spring 2009 as well.

Dawn Prayer Service

 

Monday thru Friday, 6:30 am, Harrington Center Chapel

 

Looking to start a busy day of classes and ministry in prayer? So are we. Looking to start the day with Scripture? So are we. Looking to start the day with listening for God? So are we.

 

We meet every weekday at the Harrington Center Chapel. Mondays thru Thursdays we meet at 6:30 am to sing, read scripture and to have ample time in prayer and meditation. On Fridays at 6:30 am we have a Taize service. All are invited.

Recreation Schedule

 

Hello CTS Community!

 

Based on feedback we have received from you and from our newly formed Athletics/Rec Committee, we are making a few changes to the weekly schedule.  The new schedule will be as follows... (Please specifically note the change of Frisbee to Tuesday and basketball to Monday.  We will also be starting everything at 3:45 pm now, so that we can be ready to actually start playing by 4:00 pm.)

In the next month, be on the lookout for info on a magic show presented by Marc Van Bulck, a Halloween party, and perhaps some other special events.  Please let us know if there's anything you're particularly interested in that you would like to see put on by Athletics/Rec.  

Also, for those eagerly awaiting this announcement:  The Annual Elect-Reprobate Football Game will be held on November 13, 2008.  A draft will be held in the coming months for those who have not already been predestined... stay tuned for more info.

 

Friday Night Cookouts

 

Please join us at 6:00 pm every Friday night for food, fun & fellowship. We meet in the Village up the hill by Apt. #40.

We provide the grill, paper goods, water and lemonade. Bring something to throw on the grill for yourselves, a side dish or something to share and adult beverages if you want them. You may even want to bring a chair to sit on. Come on up and visit even if you don't plan to eat. We hope to see you there!

Special SOS Halloween Cookout

Friday, October 31, 2008 at 6:00 pm, Outside of Village Apartment #40. There will be plenty of children’s activities, crafts, and fellowship. Wear your costume, as we will trick-or-treat after supper.

SOS Educational Event: Students and spouses are invited to an educational event on Monday, November 10 at 7:00 pm in HC222. Doug MacMillan will lead us in "Discerning & Negotiating Terms of Call."

 

CTS Christmas Banquet Planning Meeting: Anyone interested in helping plan our annual Christmas banquet is encouraged to come to the meeting on Monday, November 3, at 7:00 pm at Village Apartment #40.

EVENTS & PROGRAMS

Conference on Ministry Weekend

 

Beginning Thursday evening, November 6, prospective students will be arriving on campus to attend our Conference on Ministry.  What is Ministry About?” and “Is It for Me?” are questions we’ll address.  Additionally, they’re here to meet us and learn about CTS, so feel free to introduce yourselves and offer assistance.  We appreciate all that you will do to make them feel welcome.  Thank you for your cooperation! 

 

Study Abroad and International Supervised Ministry 

 

Be sure to attend the upcoming Forum on International Education on November 5.   Information about and applications for these various CTS-sponsored opportunities will be available.  Note: This Forum will be held in the Harrington Center Auditorium.

 

Women’s Advocacy Conference

On Wednesday, November 12, 2008 from 8:00 am-3:00 pm, the 18th Annual Georgia Women’s Assembly will be presenting We Rise: Forging the Women’s Agenda in Georgia.”  This advocacy conference will be lead by Mayor Shirley Franklin.

This conference is to address “Hot Button” issues for women and girls such as domestic violence, prejudice, immigrant and refugee, women in leadership and more.  If interested in attending this fantastic opportunity to forge women’s issues, please contact Jane Fahey or for more information www.womenspolicygroup.org.

 

Conference on Ministry Community-Wide Dinner

 

Please join us for dinner Saturday night, November 8, for food and fellowship with visiting prospective students.  Dinner will be served for the whole CTS community at 6:30 pm with an ice cream social following.  We will have the traditional pasta buffet for $2.50 per adult and $2.00 for children with a family cap of $12.00.  Please make plans to attend.  It’s a fun evening and we value your presence.

Children’s Story Time

 

Please join us for story time every Thursday in the Griffiths Children’s Library.  We will be having fun reading stories from 4:00- 4:30pm every week.  Please be prepared to accompany your child and participate in the fun!

 

The 2008 Campbell Scholars Are Here!                     

 

We are pleased to welcome and introduce to you seven esteemed persons who have come to Columbia to discuss The Mission of the Church in the 21st Century in an Age of Pandemics.  Professor Beth Johnson convenes the eight-week seminar (September 22- November 14) which meets each weekday morning in the Foothills Room of the Library.  We hope you will seek out and embrace these visitors to our campus as they live and work among us.  Members of the CTS community will have various opportunities to meet with our guests through luncheons, lectures, and forums.  Please watch for dates and times in This Week. 

 

The 2008 Campbell Scholars are:

 

Musonda Bwalya: Dr. Bwalya is principal and chief executive officer of The United Church of Zambia Theological College.  He holds diplomas and degrees from Makerere University (Uganda), St. Andrew’s College (Saskatchewan), Bossey Ecumenical Institute (Switzerland), and Pretoria University (South Africa).  Dr. Bwalya has done extensive work focusing on economic justice and the theological-ethical framework for economic development.

 

Paris Eley: Rev. Eley serves on the elders council of The Vision Church of Atlanta and works extensively in the area of HIV/AIDS education and services for minorities.  He is a 2001 graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary (M.Div.).

 

Osbert James: Rev. James is the minister/moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Grenada.  He has served as a chaplain at New York Presbyterian Hospital and as director of Grenada Save the Children Development Agency.  Rev. James received his M.Div. from Souteastern Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing the D.Min. degree at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.  His wife, Anna Antoine-James, is here with Rev. James during the Seminar.

 

Keith Riddle: Rev. Dr. Riddle is the managing director of East Cooper Chapel of J.Henry Stuhr, Inc.  He is the coordinator and primary funeral director for approximately 300 families per year and the aftercare facilitator, leading on-going series of grief support groups.  He has served congregations in Florida and North Carolina and is recognized as a motivational speaker dedicated to support group leadership in the areas of GLBT issues, HIV/AIDS, grief, aging, and Alzheimer's.  Rev. Riddle is a graduate of Columbia Theological Seminary (M.Div., ’91; D.Min., ‘95).

 

Donna Stroup: Dr. Stroup has 20 years of international experience in building high-performing research teams, spearheading epidemiology programs, and impacting public health worldwide. She is the president of DATA FOR SOLUTIONS, INC., an independently owned statistical research firm.  She has served in various capacities in the Epidemiology Program Office at the Center for Disease Control (CDC).  She has also held the position of director of the Center for Health Promotion and that of associate director for Science in the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention & Health Promotion at the CDC.  Dr. Stroup has taught at the University of Texas at Austin, Rider College, and Temple University. 

               

Daniel Susanto: Rev. Dr. Dusanto is a pastor of the Muria Christian Church in Indonesia (GKI).  He serves a local congregation in Menteng, a district of Jakarta.  Dr. Dusanto is also a lecturer in pastoral counseling at Jakarta Theological Seminary.  His wife, Krisnawati Wirianata, will be in residence with him during the Seminar. 

 

Chiow “Pax” Tan: Pastor Tan is senior director for the Prison, Drugs, and AIDS program at Malaysian Care, a non-profit Christian organization committed to serving the poor and needy. Malaysian Care mobilizes resources in providing relief, development assistance, and spiritual hope to individuals and groups, irrespective of race or religion. Pastor Tan is affiliated with many international agencies, including the United Nations Population Fund.  His wife, Peggy Hong See Hing, has accompanied Pastor Tan to CTS.

 

Ecumenical Advocacy Days 2009 

The theme for this year’s Ecumenical Advocacy Days, to be held March 13-16, 2009 in Washington, D.C., is “Enough for All Creation.”   Learn about the connections between climate change, migration, and poverty in the U.S. and around the world.  Ecumenical Advocacy Days is a movement of the ecumenical Christian community.  Its goal, through worship, theological reflection, and opportunities for learning and witness, is to strengthen our Christian voice and to mobilize for advocacy on a wide variety of U.S. domestic and international policy issues.
