University of Georgia Alumnus Receives Theology and Pastoral Care Awards at Columbia Seminary Commencement
Decatur, GA.—Daniel Dugan Stephens (A.B. 2001) received the Master of Divinity degree and was presented the Harold J. Riddle Memorial Book Award and the Florrie Wilkes Sanders Prize in Theology on May 16 during commencement exercises of Columbia Theological Seminary.
The Riddle Award is given to a Master of Divinity student who has shown high distinction in the field of pastoral care, especially with terminally ill patients.
The Florrie Wilkes Sanders Prize is given to the student who presents the best paper demonstrating sound theological scholarship and relevance to the needs of Christian people in the contemporary world. Special attention is given to the papers relating theology to the education, professions, and avocations of lay people.
Stephens is from Ft. Valley, GA. He serves as associate pastor of Shades Valley Presbyterian Church, in Birmingham, AL.
Stephens is one of 84 students who received diplomas from one of Columbia’s five degree programs during commencement exercises. Columbia Theological Seminary, founded in 1828, is one of 10 theological institutions of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
