New Book by Christian Ethics Professor: Confessing Christ in the Twenty-first Century
Decatur, GA.— Dr. Mark Douglas, associate professor of Christian ethics at Columbia Seminary, is the author of Confessing Christ in the Twenty-first Century, released in May by Rowman & Littlefield.
Dr. Douglas says, “I wrote this book for pastors, leaders of adult education, and laypeople who want to deepen their faith by probing its real and practical implications. [This book is] meant to help us engage in conversations about our confession as a relationship to Christ and as a way of living, even when we do not always agree about how that should be.”
Dr. Douglas’s scholarly interests include ethics in neo-orthodox theologies, medical and business ethics, the American philosophical tradition of pragmatism, and the role of religion in political philosophy. In addition to his new book, he has published numerous articles and essays, including “Thinking Again About the Reformed Tradition and Public Leadership” in Theological Education; “Changing the Rules: Just War Theory in the 21st Century” in Theology Today; and “Reinhold Niebuhr’s Two Pragmatisms” in the American Journal of Theology and Philosophy.
Dr. Douglas joined Columbia’s faculty in 1999 as assistant professor of Christian ethics and received his Ph.D. from The University of Virginia in 2000. He is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and served as associate pastor of Tabor Presbyterian Church, in Crozet, VA. He received the Master of Theology and Master of Divinity degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and the B.A. from The Colorado College. In April, the Board of Trustees approved his promotion to associate professor and granted him tenure.
