Dietrich Bonhoeffer Event at Columbia Seminary, February 4

1/10/2006

Decatur, GA.— Columbia Seminary will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the mid-twentieth century German theologian and martyr, with a special event on Saturday, February 4, from 9:30 – 12:30 a.m. The Bonhoeffer birthday celebration, which is free and open to the public, includes a lecture and small-group discussions, as well as a viewing of clips from a recent film about Bonhoeffer’s life. Kathy Dawson, assistant professor of Christian education and a Bonhoeffer scholar, is the event leader.

”Bonhoeffer touched the faith of many,” Dawson says. ”Some connect with him as a master educator of children, youth, and adults. For others, it may be his theological ideas, political resistance, or persistent spirit in the face of persecution.”

The Bonhoeffer event will take place on the seminary campus in the Richards Center. There is no charge; however, advance registration is required. To register, call 404.687.4587 or go to http://www.ctsnet.edu/news/monthly_calendar/index.asp (then click on the month and event date).

Columbia Theological Seminary, located in Decatur, Georgia, was established in 1828 and is one of 10 theological institutions of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
