6/1/2006

Decatur, GA.— On Sunday, June 18, from 2-4 p.m., you are invited to join Columbia  Seminary professors and staff for ice cream sundaes and good conversation during the 217th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). The reception is at the Sheraton Hotel, in ballrooms XI and XII. During the reception, six faculty members will lead a series of brief, informal discussions on topics of importance to the church:

•    Chuck Campbell: Dislocated Bible Study
Can we enliven Bible study by moving it outside churches and homes?
•    Erskine Clarke: Internationalizing Theological Education
How can we link theological students to Christians across social, cultural, and national boundaries?
•    Beth Johnson: Left Behind with the New Testament
How can apocalyptic texts speak directly to the church's present life together under the impact of Jesus' death and resurrection?
•    Cam Murchison: Money Mingling with Ministry
It’s hard to talk about money, but how do financial issues and our conversations about them relate to ministry and the church today?
•    Rodger Nishioka: Ministry with Young Adults
Why are so few people in their 20's and 30's in church? What can we do to attract them?
•    Marcia Riggs: The Real Culture Wars
How can religious ethical mediation (R.E.M.) help us engage issues of religion, culture, conflict, and violence?

Please share this invitation with members of your congregation by e-mailing it or by publishing the information in your worship bulletin.
