Educating imaginative, resilient leaders for God's changing world.

Course Description

P755 Prophetic Preaching/Prophetic Preacher

Explores prophetic preaching as a congregational response to the call of the Gospel rather than as a type of preaching whose skills can be mastered. The course will explore theological practices which shape congregations to receive and embody their prophetic witness as well as the prophetic visions of people such as Bonhoeffer, Brueggemann, King, Stringfellow and Weil. In conversation with these practices and thinkers we will immerse ourselves in certain avenues of grace that are central to the prophetic life. Students will read the prophets together, they will pray and investigate the nature of prayer together and they will explore the unique congregational identities of their churches that are intimately tied to the prophetic Word God has called them to proclaim.
