August 20, 2016—Columbia Theological Seminary has announced details for its Opening Convocation for the seminary’s 189th session. The event will be held at the Columbia Presbyterian Church located at 711 South Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA on September 8 at 11:00 am. This year’s speaker will be the Rev. Shannon Johnson Kershner, senior pastor of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago, IL.
Shannon Kershner grew up in Waco, TX as the daughter of a Presbyterian minister and an elementary school teacher. She graduated in 1994 from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. In 1996, she began her theological training at Columbia Theological Seminary and received her Masters of Divinity degree in 1999. Her sermons and articles have been published in a number of journals, including The Journal for Preachers and Lectionary Homiletics. She is involved in leadership for NEXT Church, serving on its Strategy Team and is a trustee for Union Presbyterian Seminary.
