Applications Now Being Accepted for Thompson Scholars 2013, Evangelism: A New Scorecard
The Thompson Scholars program for 2013, Evangelism: A New Scorecard, will take place April 30 – May 3 on the seminary campus. This annual event brings pastors and other church leaders with a special interest in evangelism to the seminary campus. The program is led by Ralph C. Basui Watkins, associate professor of evangelism and church growth.
Many of us think in terms of numbers of people we are able to draw into the church. Watkins wants to turn this concept upside down and get us to start thinking about evangelism in a new way in this year’s seminar. “We need to think in terms of relationships and partnerships,” Watkins explained. “The question we need to ask ourselves is no longer, ‘How many people came to our church events this week?’ but rather, ‘How many relationships am I building outside of my immediate church context?’” The seminar will consider broader questions about what it means to be a disciple of Christ beyond church attendance, participation in Bible Studies, and mission projects.
This is an application-based program. Qualified applicants will be accepted until we reach maximum enrollment. For an application form, click here. Application deadline is December 1, 2012. Applicants will be notified of their status by January 15, 2013. Preference will be given to applicants who have not participated in the Thompson Scholars program within the past 5-10 years.
The program fee of $175 includes the course fee and three night’s lodging (double-occupancy) and meals. The program fee for a single-occupancy room is $230. This program is generously supported by an endowment in honor of Cecil Thompson, former professor of evangelism at the seminary.
