An Invitation to a Deeper Spiritual Life
Did you know? Columbia Theological Seminary offers a Certificate in Spiritual Formation.
For almost two decades, CTS has offered courses leading to the Certificate in Spiritual Formation, a journey through which modern-day, world-weary pilgrims may quench their spiritual thirsts.
The Certificate in Spiritual Formation offers to people in the pulpit, people in the pew, and people of all denominations and stages of life an exploration of community-grounded Christian spirituality that is rooted in scripture, theology, a history of tradition, reading in the spiritual classics, prayer, and meditation. Participants learn spiritual practices experientially and develop skills for assisting others in their spiritual journeys.
“Just as we each come from various places and are on different paths, the experience for each person is different,” says Deedra Rich, Interim Associate Director of Spirituality and Lifelong Learning. She continues, “Some of the common elements of the experience begin with our unique adult pedagogy that blends together academic, communal, personal, and practical components.”
Rich offers the invitation: “Wherever you are on your journey, we invite you to join us in this unique program, where you will be guided into the disciplines of prayer and academic study and sustained by an extended community of Christians. You are welcome to join us for one class or the whole certificate program.”
The starting point for the Certificate in Spiritual Formation is the Immersion Experience: An Invitation to a Deeper Spiritual Life. The next Immersion Experience will be held at Montreat Conference Center, April 7-10, 2013.
