Half Day Spirituality Retreats this Fall
The Certificate in Spiritual Formation Program invites the broader CTS community to join us for two half-day retreats this fall. Both will be led by Debra Weir, spiritual director and retreat leader.
Practicing the Art of the Present Moment will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9-12 in the Broyles Leadership Center. Following a time of welcome and introduction, we will consider ideas about God’s presence and our being present to God, then practice simple prayers of recollection (Teresa of Avila) through centering and silence, walking, art-making, and writing, attending the mystery of God. We hope you will come, be, and embrace the simplicity of being present with others seeking God. “The present moment is like a desert in which simple souls see and rejoice only in God, being solely concerned to do what he asks of them.” Jean-Pierre de Caussade, The Sacrament of the Present Moment
Inhabiting Advent will be held November 16 from 9-12 in the Harrington Center Chapel. Bobby Gross writes, in Living the Christian Year: Time to Inhabit the Story of God, “If Advent is a time of watching for signs of hope and waiting for the light of Christ, a time for God to enlarge us with his quiet presence, how can we enter into this season and let it enter into us? We will gather to pray, wait, and watch, naming especially those things for which our hearts yearn. What are you waiting for?
We invite you to bring your life questions and join us in praying, watching, and waiting for advent within a community that embraces silence, listening, and creative reflection so that our hearts and lives might be enlarged to embrace and embody the sensibilities of the season.
Registration and more information for both retreats are available at www.SpiritualityProgram.com under courses and events or by calling the Spirituality office at 404-687-4557.
