Professor Hartmut Lehmann will deliver the Dean's lecture at 11 am in RARB252. Lehmann's lecture, "1517 - 2017: Martin Luther's Great Anniversary in an Age of Religious Pluralism and Secularization," is the initial event at Candler and Emory that will address the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 and how we should commemorate it. Professor Lehmann has had a distinguished career as Professor of Modern History at the University of Kiel, the founding director of the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC, and the long-serving director of the Max-Planck-Institute for History in Göttingen. In recent years in Germany, he has taken a public role in pushing for a more reflective approach to the 500th anniversary commemorations.
