John Knox Presbyterian Church Pastor Receives Doctor of Ministry Award at Columbia Seminary Commencement

Decatur, GA.— Rev. John Cecil Brearley, pastor of John Knox Presbyterian Church, in Greenville, SC, received the Doctor of Ministry degree and was presented the George and Sally Telford Award on May 16 during commencement exercises of Columbia Theological Seminary. Brearley, of Greer, SC, holds the B.A. from Presbyterian College, in Clinton, SC, and the M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary, in Richmond, VA (now Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education). The Telford Award is given to an outstanding Doctor of Ministry graduate who shows exceptional ability for congregational leadership with an emphasis on social justice issues and vision for the church. Brearley is one of 84 students who received diplomas from one of Columbia’s five degree programs during commencement exercises. Columbia Theological Seminary, founded in 1828, is one of 10 theological institutions of the Presbyterian Church (USA). xxx
