First Presbyterian Church Member Receives Award in Theology at Columbia Seminary Commencement


Decatur, GA.—Clayton Anderson James, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Oxford, MS, received the Master of Divinity degree and was presented the Toms-McGarrahan Award in Theology on May 14 during commencement exercises of Columbia Theological Seminary. The Toms-McGarrahan Award recognizes outstanding achievement in the area of Christian theology. The award is given in honor of the Rev. Russell Toms, a 1951 graduate of Columbia, and his daughter Eunice McGarrahan. James is originally from Brandon, MS, and holds the B.A. from the University of Mississippi in Oxford. He is a candidate for ministry under the care of the Presbytery of St. Andrew and is seeking a call to parish ministry. James is one of 92 students who received diplomas from one of Columbia’s five degree programs during commencement exercises. Columbia Theological Seminary, established in 1828, is one of 10 theological institutions of the Presbyterian Church (USA). xxx
