Columbia Seminary Graduation Events On May 19-20
Decatur, GA.— Columbia Theological Seminary’s 2006 baccalaureate service will be at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 19, at Columbia Presbyterian Church, adjacent to the seminary. Tom Long, Bandy Professor of Preaching at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, will give the baccalaureate sermon. Long served previously as a professor of preaching and worship at Columbia and at Princeton Theological Seminary. He is the author of numerous books on preaching, including The Witness of Preaching, Preaching as a Theological Task, Preaching in and Out of Season, and Preaching and the Literary Forms of the Bible. He is senior homiletics editor for the New Interpreter’s Bible, associate editor of the Journal for Preachers, and served as editor of Theology Today. He is currently chair of the advisory committee for Day 1, the award-winning ecumenical radio and television program. Commencement is at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, in Atlanta. The choir and bell choir of Atlanta’s Central Presbyterian Church will participate in the commencement service. Degrees will be conferred on students in five degree programs: Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Theological Studies, Master of Theology, Doctor of Theology, and Doctor of Ministry. Recipients of awards and fellowships will be announced during the graduation exercises. Columbia Theological Seminary, located in Decatur, GA, was established in 1828 and is one of 10 theological institutions of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
