Columbia Celebrates Its 181st Year with September 4 Convocation

Decatur, GA—Columbia Theological Seminary will celebrate the start of its 181st year on September 4, with a convocation service that begins at 10:00a.m at Columbia Presbyterian Church. Joan Gray, a 1976 seminary graduate and moderator of the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s 217th General Assembly, will preach the convocation sermon. The ceremony will be followed by the traditional community lunch on the seminary campus. Joan Gray is a recognized expert on Presbyterian Church polity and structure and is the co-author of Presbyterian Polity for Church Officers. She was elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s 217th General Assembly in 2006 and served on their Advisory Committee on the Constitution, before that. Gray also sat on the Provisional Constitutional Committee for five General Assemblies before and after the Presbyterian reunion in 1983. Throughout her career, Gray has taught at Columbia Theological Seminary, Johnson C. Smith Seminary, and Princeton Theological Seminary. She has also served seven churches in the Atlanta, GA, area. Columbia Theological Seminary, located in Decatur, Georgia, was established in 1828 and is one of 10 theological institutions of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
