Columbia Offering Spiritual Formation Courses in October
Decatur, GA—Columbia Theological Seminary’s Center for Lifelong Learning will offer the introductory course for its Certificate in Spiritual Formation program the weekend of October 12-17 on the seminary campus. An elective course in the certification program, "Spiritual Leadership," will be offered at the Montreat Conference Center, Montreat, NC, on October 23-26. The "immersion experience" will be a feast for the soul as participants study the formative elements of biblical, monastic, and Reformed spirituality. There will be an opportunity for personal reflection through guided meditative journaling, exploring one's own unique journey with the living God. Community and practical application of acquired knowledge are also part of this experience. Leading the course is Tom Lewis, director of the spirituality program. Tuition is $400. Meals and lodging are extra. CEU credit is available for this course. Inquire upon arrival. In the "Spiritual Leadership" course, participants will examine such questions as: What are the characteristics of an effective spiritual leader; How does the Holy Spirit empower spiritual leaders; and What kinds of disciplines are needed? This course is designed to be helpful to people growing into spiritual leadership within and outside church settings. Joan Gray, Moderator of the 217th General Assembly of the PC (USA), is the leader. She is also a trained spiritual director and an experienced Presbyterian pastor. Tuition is $378 and includes a $128 Montreat fee. CEU credit is available for this course. Inquire upon arrival.
