New Book by Walter Brueggemann on Old Testament Interpretation

2008-12-12

Decatur, GA—Walter Brueggemann, professor emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary, is the author of A Pathway of Interpretation: the Old Testament for Pastors and Students published by Cascade Books. The book offers advice on how to interpret different Old Testament texts such as narratives, prophecies, and Psalms, and how to work thematically using aspects of different religious traditions. In this book, Brueggemann reaches theological interpretations by working through the rhetoric of Old Testament passages. These investigations indicate his belief that moving from text to interpretive outcome is a creative effort that pastors and students can learn and practice. Columbia Theological Seminary, located in Decatur, Georgia, was established in 1828 and is one of 10 theological institutions of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
