Clemson University Alumni Recognized at Columbia Seminary Commencement

2004-06-04

Decatur, GA.— Two Clemson University alumni received the Master of Divinity degree and were recognized for outstanding academic achievement on May 16 during commencement exercises of Columbia Theological Seminary. Luther Franklin Fant, Jr. (B.S. 1986) and Louis Daniel Imsande (B.S. 1983) were among 84 students who received diplomas from one of Columbia’s five degree programs. Fant was the recipient of the Wilds Book Prize, Columbia’s highest academic honor. The award is given annually to the graduating student selected by the faculty for having the highest academic distinction throughout the Master of Divinity program. Fant is from Alexandria, VA, and holds the Ph.D. from Florida State University. He serves as pastor of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church, in Columbia, SC. Imsande received the William Rivers Waddey Fund Award, given this year for the first time. The award was established by Walter and Cecilia Waddey in memory of their son, William, who was an active and vital part of the youth program at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, in Atlanta. The fund supports an award given to a graduating basic degree student possessing extraordinary gifts for youth ministry and pursuing such a call in the church. Imsande, of Roswell, GA, serves as director of family ministries at Roswell Presbyterian Church, in Roswell, GA. Columbia Theological Seminary, founded in 1828, is one of 10 theological institutions of the Presbyterian Church (USA). xxx
