Columbia to Join "Let Freedom Ring" Celebration
This Wednesday, August 28 (tomorrow) will mark the 50th Anniversary of the “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom”. The events taking place will be more than a remembrance, but also a renewed call to action on similar issues we face today.
3pm marks the approximate time when Martin Luther King, Jr. addressed more than 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 1963. Tomorrow at 3pm, bells will ring across the world -- especially in the locations Dr. King mentioned in his “I Have a Dream” speech. Columbia Theological Seminary will be one of many institutions participating as part of a global celebration coordinated by the King Center in Atlanta. If you are not near the bells here or elsewhere, you may still celebrate. Go to www.mlkdream50.com where there are many resources about the celebration available there. Watch and listen as President Obama and Bernice A. King invoke a call to "Let Freedom Ring!" You will be able to join and participate by ringing the virtual bell in concert with people all around the world.
