Mayor Shirley Franklin Invites You to the Mayor's Breakfast Roundtable

Tuesday, May 13, 2008, 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. at the City Council Chambers, Second Floor, City Hall 55 Trinity Avenue, SW - Atlanta, GA 30303

"We Are Our Mother's Daughters: women and aging in Atlanta"

A panel of experts will discuss the emotional, financial and physical aspects of growing older and the overriding issue of who will care for the caregiver. There is a huge gender disparity when it comes to women since we obviously live longer but are proportionately less prepared for the eventuality of our physical decline. We will also look at elder abuse and the nursing care industry, preparing for end-of-life medical decisions for ourselves and our families and confronting the reality that "getting old isn't for sissies." RSVP to: stdavis@atlantaga.gov Sponsored by the Atlanta Women's Agenda with support from the League of Women Voters Atlanta-Fulton, the Atlanta Commission of Women and especially Kaiser Permanente.

Consider Central Outreach and Advocacy Center

The Central Outreach and Advocacy Center has two goals: to help provide emergency food and services to the homeless and impoverished in the Atlanta area, as well as advocating at all levels of government to promote public policy changes that directly impact the needs of those it serves. Together with the Central Presbyterian Church and our special community partners the COAC strives to make not only an immediate, but a lasting difference in people’s lives. With a small staff and volunteers, Central Outreach and Advocacy Center offers counseling and hospitality services such as snacks, beverages, restrooms and telephones every weekday.  Counselors help guests with ID services, shelter referrals and medical care including dental, prescription glasses, and treatment for alcohol and drug dependency.
