Part-time/Special Students

Persons who would like to take a course which is part of a degree program, but do not wish to work toward a degree, may enroll a Special Students and take courses for credit. The Dean of the Faculty must approve their program of study and every course they propose to take. Special Student status must be renewed each academic term. All applicants for whom English is a second language must pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) before admission and enrollment for credit can be attained. Those seeking admission must score at least 220 (computer format), 550 (written format), or 77 (internet format) with minimum scores in the following areas: Reading 22; Listening 16; Speaking 17; and Writing 22.

Students of other institutions of theological education who want to take courses for credit at Columbia can enroll as a Special Student. Their application must include an official transcript of work completed at their home institution. It is the responsibility of the student to determine the transferability of Columbia's credit to his or her home institution.

To apply as a Special Student, please first fill out and submit a Special Student application (If now in college, a final transcript will be necessary when you graduate.)
