Educating imaginative, resilient leaders for God's changing world.

S3 (Sabbath, Study, Service)

The Lilly Endowment, Inc.,   awarded Columbia Theological Seminary a five-year grant of $648,863 to support continuation of the seminary’s S3 Project, which offers small, self-selected groups of clergy and other church professionals the opportunity to design and participate in group learning projects that strengthen their practice of ministry. Groups receive $500 per person to fund their self-directed group work that focuses on aspects of Sabbath, study, and service (S3). Participants  attend two retreats, one, at the beginning of their year-long project and another at the conclusion.

The application process for the 2014 cohort closed on October 18, 2013. If accepted into the project, peer group participants will attend the orientation retreat February 17-20, 2014 and the final evaluation retreat in February, 2015.

Each group must submit one file containing the completed group and individual applications electronically by or before the October 18 deadline; a printed copy must be postmarked and mailed by this date as well.

The project brochure and application materials are located at the links, below.  Contact S3 Project coordinator Sarah Erickson at 404-687-4526 or with questions. Groups will be notified of acceptance by November 1.
