Seminary Sunday, September 21

Seminary Sunday, September 21

By Randy Calvo, Jr. (’81), Director of Alumni/ae and Church Relations

We are so thankful for the many partners we have throughout the United States and even around the world. And we are especially thankful for all of the efforts made by you and your churches to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the year.

At Columbia Theological Seminary, we continually strive to support churches and alumni/ae in this work, a part of which is doing theological education. While we have ongoing programs and services through our Center for Lifelong Learning, the John Bulow Campbell Library, and our Office for Alumni/ae and Church Relations, we set aside a special day each fall for Theological Education/Seminary Sunday.

This year, the Presbyterian Church (USA) has designated Sunday, September 21, 2014 as Theological Education/Seminary Sunday on the denominational calendar. On that day in Sunday morning classes and worship services, we are encouraged with our congregations to reflect upon the importance of and our commitments to theological education for every member of the church, as well as those who preach and teach each Sunday. Whether it is in the seminary classroom or in the local church ministry, transformation of persons by the renewing of the mind is both the language and exhortation of God’s Word. Therefore, please join with our Presbyterian seminaries and congregations on Sunday, September 21 in shedding light upon this scriptural mandate.

Resources

To this end, Columbia Seminary is pleased to be a resource to your congregation. We can offer you printed materials including bulletin inserts at no cost to you. As soon as possible, please let us know your wishes by contacting Barbara Poe at poeb@ctsnet.edu or 404-687-4566. We look forward to sharing with you in this important occasion.

Speakers

For churches in the Atlanta area, we also can provide a speaker to join your Sunday School class and/or worship service. A number of our faculty, staff and students have volunteered to be available that day. Again, please let us know as soon as possible by contacting Barbara Poe at poeb@ctsnet.edu or 404-687-4566.

Various Denominations

We also recognize that our partners, students and alumni/ae increasingly come to us from a number of denominations. If you are from one of these denominations, we would be glad to make arrangements with your church for this or another Sunday.

Thank you all for your partnership with Columbia Theological Seminary and its work in helping to prepare women and men as resilient and imaginative leaders for Christ’s church.
