Our Mission for the Church
Your gifts to Columbia Theological Seminary can directly help us
fulfill our mission of providing pastoral and lay leadership to
the Presbyterian Church (USA) and the larger church. There are numerous
resources that are needed in order to:
- prepare students who will proclaim the reign of God through
their preaching, teaching, scholarship, and pastoral care, and
- provide for lifelong learning programs that strengthen pastors
and leaders as they serve Christ’s mission today.
We hope you will consider becoming a partner with us in this mission
by making a gift that supports the following institutional priorities:
Our Students
The future leaders we train at Columbia have already made a commitment
to serve God’s church. In turn, we must commit to supporting their
education. If we hope to fill critical pastoral shortages in our
churches, we must have the resources to train even more students—in
all of our degree programs.
Our Faculty The
dedicated and talented faculty at Columbia Theological Seminary
represents our most valuable resource. They not only prepare future
pastors and lay leaders, but also help attract gifted individuals
to undertake careers in ministry. As we work to encourage more of
the best students to serve the church, it is crucial that we have
the resources to attract—and retain—quality faculty.
Our Campus
As Columbia Theological Seminary works to help more individuals
heed the call to ministry, we must provide adequate housing and
classroom space, as well as office space for the staff and faculty
who support and prepare them. Your support helps create the best
possible living and learning environment for our students as they
prepare to serve our congregations.
Our
Library and Technology Services
Our library and technology services help Columbia Theological Seminary
provide critical resources for our entire community, both on- and
off-campus. Our faculty, students, and staff all rely heavily on
the library, on information technology, and on the support of library
staff to work, learn, and carry out their scholarship. Through online
education and distance learning, Columbia also has plans to reach
out to those who cannot always attend classes on campus. Computers,
online services, software, and other items are needed to reach out
to this broader group of students and extend our vision beyond our
traditional borders.
Our Programs
Although Columbia’s primary mission is to prepare ministers and
leaders for the church of Jesus Christ, the seminary also serves
as a theological resource for many. Columbia offers ongoing education
to both pastors and laity through programs such as the
Lay Institute, the Center
for New Church Development, the Spirituality
Program, and the Continuing
Education Program. Columbia also has emphases in youth ministry,
international programs, and public leadership. Gifts to Columbia
help us ensure that these programs remain a vital resource for the
entire church community.
