In Honor of President Stephen A. Hayner
Ninth President of Columbia Theological Seminary
and Professor of Christian Leadership Development
Supporters of Columbia Theological Seminary have sought a way to honor Steve Hayner and his many years of service in a tangible way. Given Steve’s commitments to cultural diversity, global outreach, instructional technology and relational leadership, a new Global Leadership Endowment was proposed. This endowment would build on the legacy of his presidency to attract leaders from all walks of life and to send them out into the world for renewed service to God and the Church.
The purpose of the Global Leadership Endowment is to foster initiatives for mutual enrichment and robust scholarship by engaging with leaders from diverse cultures empowering students for creative service in God’s changing world.
The Right Place at the Right Time
From building the Vernon S. Broyles Jr. Leadership Center to developing the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and the many activities and programs inspired by them, Columbia Theological Seminary is already “educating imaginative, resilient leaders for God’s changing world.” What we still need as an institution is an endowment which will strategically fund leadership initiatives for personnel, programmatic, and curricular changes necessary to further deepen and strengthen our global partnerships through technology, education, global outreach and service. Funding would be used to enhance what we already do in a broader sense:
Technology: Engaging new frontiers of virtual space as a residential institution that seeks excellence in service to the church and the wider world.
Education: Empowering the development of leaders to leverage our educational mission deeper into the lives of those who are here regionally and our partners beyond.
Global Outreach: Connecting with theological institutions and ecclesial bodies of the reformed tradition through the global exchange of students and scholars.
Service: Forming servant leaders through every aspect of our daily life together alongside international partners.
Your Part in a New Initiative
Our partnership with you increases the presence and visibility of Columbia Theological Seminary both here and around the world. With your support, we hope to continue welcoming new leaders into the life of our community and sending them back out into the world for the benefit of all God’s people. Our commitment to global leadership development is formational and foundational to who we are. Please consider giving toward the Global Leadership Endowment in honor of President Steve Hayner today!
