Trustees Elect New Chair
At its October meeting, the Board of Trustees elected William E. Scheu of Jacksonville, FL, as its new chair. He succeeds Frank Skinner, who had completed his five-year term as board chair.
Scheu is a member and elder of Riverside Presbyterian Church, in Jacksonville. He has served as trustee and clerk of session at Riverside and has been a member of the General Assembly Permanent Judicial Commission for the PC(USA).
He is also a past trustee of Presbyterian College, in Clinton, SC. He has practiced law since 1970 and has been a member of Rogers Towers law firm in Jacksonville since 1997. In 1992 and 2005 he received the Jacksonville Bar Association’s Lawyer of the Year award.
Scheu is a lifelong resident of Jacksonville and has been involved in the leadership of numerous civic, humanitarian, and political organizations in that city. He has been active in the Community Conflict Resolution team, teaching mediation techniques to 200 community leaders and mediating numerous disputes involving citizens, public officials, and community organizations. In 2004 he was honored with the Mary L. Singleton Peacemaker Award. In addition, he is a past president of the Jacksonville Community Council, the Housing Partnership of Jacksonville, and the Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition. In 2004, he was appointed Supervisor of Elections for Duval County, FL.
A graduate of the University of the South, Scheu received his Doctor of Jurisprudence (with honors) from the University of Florida Law School. He and his wife, Margaret, have three adult daughters: Mary, Margaret, and Sara.
