Decatur & Atlanta
Decatur, GA has the best combination of being a traditional small town with all the benefits of living in a major metropolitan area. Friendly neighbors, tree-lined streets, great schools, parks and playing fields, libraries, colleges, and businesses all make this community a wonderful place to live. Decatur is a small city located in northeastern Georgia, just 5 miles northeast of Atlanta. The city was founded in 1823 at the intersection of two Native American trails and named after US naval hero Stephen Decatur. Originally slated to be the southernmost terminus of the Western and Atlantic Railroad in the 1830’s, the city objected and the railroad instead built up the then smaller town of Atlanta.
