December 31, 2019—The C. Benton Kline, Jr. Special Collections and Archives is pleased to announce the release of a new digital collection. Now available in the institutional repository is the entire run of academic catalogs, dating from 1849-2019. The digital collection includes all the physical copies available in the archives. To our knowledge, the catalog was not regularly printed until 1849, and subsequently was not printed during years of low enrollment or financial hardship.
The academic catalogs provide a wealth of resources concerning curriculum changes over time, as well as course descriptions and the faculty who taught them. If you have a question about who was at CTS and when, the academic catalogs are your number one resource. Want to test your research savvy? Here are a few questions to get you started!
A. In 1851, how many faculty members served Columbia Theological Seminary?
B. In what year was the first “Chairmen of the Faculty” elected?
C. In what year was Dr. James McDowell Richards elected President of CTS?
D. What was the name of the HD664 course in the year 2000?
E. In what year was the Bachelor of Divinity degree renamed Master of Divinity?
F. In what year did CTS shift from the quarter system to the semester system?
