In this course, students will analyze and exegete selections of Hebrew text from the three major prophets whose careers overlap with the exilic period in ancient Israel (587-539 BCE): Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Second Isaiah. Topics will include the nature of prophecy in ancient Israel, the historical context of the exilic period, and prophetic engagement on the theme of idolatry. Attention will be given to various scholarly methods as well as theological appropriation and proclamation. Prerequisite: B5050 Introductory Biblical Hebrew
