What Affects One, Affects All

How can we have peace in the Middle East when there’s none at home?   ~  Peace on Earth, Rachelle Ferrell

“…it’s not an accident—that every time the Congo question or anything on the African continent is being debated in the Security Council, they couple it with what’s going on, or what is happening to you and me, in Mississippi and Alabama…”   ~  Malcolm X, Audubon Ballroom, 1964

One of the most critical concerns of the 2024 Presidential contest is each candidate’s Foreign Policy.  Much of this emphasis is born out of a sincere concern for those in countries like the Democratic Republic of the Congo being traumatized, made homeless, starved and killed.

The balance of interest occurs at the level of the Spirit. For most of us, the undeniable voice of our consciousness repeats a message to our very soul that, problems, no matter how far away they occur, across any chord, are connected.  Once unfathomable, we now see how the crisis in the Congo could happen in America next year.  The problems of countries on the other side of the globe could be ours tomorrow.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr put it this way; “In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

The spirit that infects leaders to cause or allow the infliction of harm in the Congo can quickly and easily turn inside. The fear of this is real. Very real.

To the Almighty and High God who creates, surrounds and protects us all, please, in your mercy, remember to protect us from ourselves.
