Faithful Civil Service: A Conversation between the Hon. Joseph Cobb, D.Min., and Dr. Mark Douglas

Democratic systems resist attempts to centralize power. Healthy ones, then, are shaped by citizens acting at local levels to address immediate concerns—one practice of which is to be as involved in local elections as national ones. The citizens of Roanoke, Virginia, recently demonstrated their own responsible citizenship by electing Rev. Dr. Joe Cobb, CTS alum, as their mayor.

On the evening of Sept. 24, we are going to have a chance to sit down with Joe, to talk about what called him into such a form of public service, to think about how he relates his faith commitments to that service, and to explore how thoughtful democratic (with a small “d”) projects might invigorate a move toward healthier democratic systems.
