This course is designed to discover methods enabling the inclusion of controversial subject matter in preaching and teaching, without being overly divisive. We want to really hear the insights of those with opposing points of view, then incorporate some of these consensus insights into a Biblically based sermon. At least one of the following issues should be reflected in the sermon: interfaith action, health care, public education, domestic violence, drugs, parenting, child and elder abuse, and our ministry with the poor. Selected readings will include Lerone Bennet, Vincent Hardy and Howard Thurman, and other articles & books. There will also be periods for dialogue between students and teacher, over a wide broad range of theological concerns. Prerequisite: P151.
