P688 Sacred Places as Community Assets

Congregations may be understood as unique cultures with their own story, identity, and mission developed in continuing interaction with its community environment. This course bridges theories of understanding congregations with practical challenges of the stewardship of sacred places seen as community-serving assets for ministry. Topics include identifying the public value of sacred places, uncovering and sharing the unique heritage of older houses of worship, expanding cultural and social outreach activities, and planning for repairs so that church buildings remain resources for ministry in a communal setting.
