POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW ROSY KANDATHIL JOINS COLUMBIA AS VISITING INSTRUCTOR OF OLD TESTAMENT

Rosy Kandathil will join Columbia Theological Seminary as a Visiting Instructor of Old Testament and Louisville Institute Postdoctoral Fellow from 2023-25.

Columbia partners with The Louisville Institute in their Vocation of the Theological Educator Initiative’s Postdoctoral Fellowship program. The program provides early-career scholars with two-year visiting professorships at North American theological schools, colleges, or universities. Fellowship recipients are accompanied by a faculty peer mentor and pastoral peer mentor throughout their fellowship and participate in a peer cohort for ongoing professional development and vocational formation.

Kandathil is currently completing her doctorate in Hebrew Bible at Emory University. Her dissertation explores the use of comedy in the narrative traditions of Esther, including the book’s complex entanglement of humor and violence and its constructions of gender.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College, a juris doctor from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, and herMaster’s of Arts in Theology and Master’s of Theology  degrees from St. John’s University School of Theology and Seminary. In addition to her teaching experience, Kandathil brings certification in spiritual direction and an extensive background in monastic and contemplative spirituality, including four years as a Benedictine Sojourner, Novice, and Sister at Holy Wisdom Monastery in Madison, Wisc.
