H663 Introduction to African Christian Thought

An exploration of the emergence of post-colonial African Christian thought as a response to mainline protestant Christianity and the developments of the African Initiated Churches (AICs); focus on themes on Gospel and culture, contextualization and Jesus in African Christianity demonstrating how these are in continuity and discontinuity with Western Christian thought. The themes will be examined from the point of view of major African Christian scholars, past and present broadly representing the spectrum of contemporary African Christian thought.
