P740 Liturgical Language for Today’s Church

P740 Liturgical Language for Today’s Church

How can the words we speak in worship be accessible, lively, and evocative? This course will study the evolution of liturgical language in the 20th century, provide tools for analyzing and critiquing liturgical resources that have been published in recent years, and offer a vision for liturgical language for today’s church. In addition to exploring how language works and considering the work of contemporary authors, students will create new liturgical texts and engage in collaborative methods of writing and editing. A wide variety of prayer forms, as well as words spoken from font and table, will be explored.
