This course offers a broad introduction to queer theologies by exploring a range of theologies that complement and sometimes stand in tension with one another. Where some queer theologies, for instance, promote the flourishing of LGBTQIAA+ communities through efforts at inclusion and equity (e.g., through inclusive ordination policies), others resist the essentialist categories and binaries that efforts at inclusion often rely on, calling into question the hierarchical systems created by these categories. In this course, students will explore the methods, themes, trends, and tensions within queer theologies and begin the work of applying these methods and themes to their own (ministry) contexts.
