What is light?

Is it the candle I hold

During a vigil?

Is it the moon that glows

On the tears of the tortured?

Is it the sun that rises

Over bodies taken

during the light of the moon?

What is hope?

Is it the prayer I send upward

To God and over to Gaza?

Is it the song I sing marching

Forward and in my heart?

Is it the Palestinian Jew

Who breathed his last

On a cross in Jerusalem?

When is the end? Is it in

The silence after the last gunshot?

When the bombs are done

Will we celebrate?

Will we cheer?

What are the cheers for?

Are we cheering for the sound of peace?

Are we cheering for the cost of it?
