Rev. Dr. Kathryn Threadgill Appointed as Vice President and Dean, Student Formation and Campus Culture

October 18, 2022 – The Board of Trustees of Columbia Theological Seminary has appointed Rev. Dr. Kathryn Kim SongAe Threadgill as Vice President and Dean, Student Formation and Campus Culture effective November 28, 2022.

Currently Dr. Threadgill serves as the Associate Director of Theology, Formation and Evangelism for the Presbyterian Mission Agency of the Presbyterian Church (USA) where she presides over the ministry Offices of 1001 New Worshiping Communities, Vital Congregations, Theology and Worship, Christian Formation and the Office of Youth and Triennium for the Presbyterian Church (USA). Prior to that, Dr. Threadgill was the Coordinator of the Office of Vital Congregations in the Presbyterian Church (USA). She helped to found and create the Vital Congregations Initiative for the denomination.

As an ordained minister of the Word and Sacraments for fourteen years, Dr. Threadgill has served Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, NC. as the Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adult Ministries and Government Street Presbyterian Church in Mobile, AL. as the Associate for Christian Formation and Youth Ministry.  She earned her BA at Montreat College, majoring in Bible and Religion with a concentration in Youth Ministry and went on to earn both her Masters of Divinity (2008) and her Doctorate of Educational Ministry (2016) degrees at Columbia.

“I am looking forward to walking alongside students as they discern and form their call,” said Dr. Threadgill. “To be able to do so at Columbia, a place so dear to my heart, as it moves toward its third century is a blessing that I give thanks for to God.”

Columbia Theological Seminary is shifting its operations for enrollment and student affairs to better support both prospective and enrolled students. “As such, we have reimagined our structure so that we will have one department to oversee enrollment and vocational outreach and another to oversee student formation and campus culture,” said Rev. Dr. Victor Aloyo, President, Columbia Theological Seminary. “Both are vital to the health of the seminary and our mission of forming pastoral leaders for the church and the world.”

“The office of Student Formation and Campus Culture encompasses the idea that student learning does not occur exclusively within the classroom and that theological education affects students profoundly in many different dimensions of life,” said Dr. Aloyo “With her experience serving at the Presbyterian Mission Agency in formation and theology, serving the church as a youth minister, and her knowledge of Columbia, I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Threadgill to serve in this critical role.”
